EFO projects reach around the globe.
In locations like Rwanda, Bangladesh and the Philippines we help provide vocational training, life-skills training, basic education, micro-finance and small business development training for women who have been victims of gender-based violence and labor and sex trafficking. We help provide education for children of vulnerable women who have had little opportunity to make available formal education for their children. We help support the education of children and youth who have suffered as child soldiers and missed much of their basic education as a result of this existence. We reach out to provide education for street children and orphans. We provide educational consultation, curriculum and training for faculty and teachers working with vulnerable children and youth.
Our Current Featured Project
Hope Child Development Center- Rwanda
Gisenyi is located along the Rwanda and DR Congo border in northwestern Rwanda. This area of the world is notoriously noted for its exploitations of women. Many of the poorest women living in this area travel daily across the Rwanda/Congo border in an attempt to make a living for themselves and their children. Given their marginalized position, others often exploit them. Many have to leave their young children unattended at the border while they enter the Congo and spend the day working or gathering resources.
The Hope Child Development Center is located just a few blocks from the main border crossing between Gisenyi, Rwanda and Goma, Congo. Volunteers from the center, in conjunction with the local government, identify the youngest border children in the greatest need and bring them to the Hope Child Development Center. There they receive food, early childhood education and nurturing from adults who look out for their welfare. This new center will provide care for 120 of the most disadvantaged of the border children between the ages of 2 and 5.
Contributions received for this project will go toward the construction and support of the Hope Child Development Center in Gisenyi, Rwanda.
