Working to achieve long-term, sustainable results.
Partnering
We believe in partnering with organizations around the world that share our philosophy and commitment to our essential pillars of programming. Partnering allows us to accomplish greater work, establish accountability, strengthen our voice, and access/share additional resources and expertise.
Local Autonomy
Educate for Opportunity (EFO) takes the time to understand how individuals and communities view their worlds, how they perceive outside change agents, and how local community members work together to build autonomy.
Advocacy
EFO believes that women and children need advocates—people who care about them and are willing to speak out and work on their behalf. Making a commitment to women and children and translating that commitment into action is essential.
Community-based Transformation
EFO believes in and promotes community-based transformation by providing vital information and training about life and livelihoods (small business practice, health care, agricultural techniques, etc.) that can be put to immediate use to promote not just individual change but also collective change within a community.
Education
EFO believes fervently in the value of education. Education serves as an entry point to most other life fulfilling opportunities. In fact the educational achievement of women and children, in particular, can have ripple effects within the family and across generations. EFO believes that investing in education is one of the most effective ways to reduce poverty, and it yields immeasurable dividends economically, socially, cognitively and physically. Stretching one’s mind through education is a gift for a lifetime and beyond.
Sustainability
EFO supports the development of many types of indigenous non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and community-based organizations (CBOs) to achieve long-term, sustainable results.
